The trade surplus for goods in Germany decreased by €51 billion between 2002 and 2022, while the highest absolute increases was reported in the Netherlands (€38 billion). France's trade balance dropped the most between 2002 and 2021, by €194 billion.

This was 64 % higher than the level recorded for exports leaving the EU to non-EU member countries of €2 572 billion (extra-EU trade).
On a calendar and seasonally adjusted basis, German exports to countries outside the European Union (third countries) increased by 1.0% in November 2023 compared with October 2023. According to provisional data of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), Germany exported goods to the value of 59.2 billion euros to these countries in November 2023, after seasonal and calendar adjustment.
